CNS Policies

Using the Collection

The Centre for Newfoundland Studies does not lend its materials; they must be used in the Centre’s reading room. This policy helps protect and preserve the collection and ensures that its holdings are available for readers at all times. Many NL books are available for circulation in the regular stacks of the QEII Library. Consult the Library Catalogue or ask for help.

When visiting the Centre, you will be asked to fill out request slips for the material you wish to see. As you hand them in at the Service Counter, you will be asked to show a photo ID.

Items in the Centre’s collection of rare and vault books are not permitted to be viewed in the reading room. They may be viewed under supervision behind the Service Counter. Photocopying of rare and vault items is not permitted. Digital cameras without flash may be used with permission from staff.

Food & Drink

No food or beverage (except water) may be consumed in the Centre for Newfoundland Studies.

Space

The Centre’s Reading Room is designated as a “quiet” place to work.

Cell Phones

Cell phone calls should be placed or answered outside the Centre.
