How to access

  1. Go the MUN Libraries homepage at http://www.library.mun.ca/
  2. If you are at home, click on the Off-campus Login icon at the top right of the home page, and follow the instructions.
  3. Select Article Indexes
  4. Under Indexes by Title, select C
  5. Select Canadian Research Index (Microlog)

Quick tips

Truncation $n (n is the maximum number of letters to be added and searched beyond the root word) e.g. fish$3 finds fish, fishes, fishing but not fisherman
Combining terms use Boolean operators - and, or, not - and parentheses ( ) where necessary. More info
Phrase searching use parentheses e.g., (food contamination)

How to search

  1. Choose Keyword (or Browse if you have an exact Title or Author search)
  2. Enter your words or phrases in the appropriate field
          Search Everything searches all available fields (recommended for most searches)
          Subject searches a standardized list of terms in the subject field only
          Author, title, etc.
  3. Add any further limits such as document type or year, if desired
  4. Click on Search

    Example:
        Search Everything: (reproduc$4 or breed$3 or spawn$3) and codfish
        Author: jackson

Combining Search Sets
For more advanced searching you can combine two or more of your previous searches.
  1. Select HISTORY to display your previous searches
  2. Select GO BACK and then select NEW SEARCH
  3. In Search Everything field, type in the numbers of the searches you wish to combine

Example:
    Search History
2) (ATLANTIC SALMON OR PACIFIC SALMON) {ANYWHERE}
1) (REPRODUC$4 OR SPAWN$3 OR BREED$3) {ANYWHERE}
    New Search
Search Everything:       #1 and #2

Locating documents in the library

To determine if Memorial Libraries owns a journal:
  1. Open the Library Catalogue in a new window
  2. Select Browse above the search box
  3. Select Title from the drop down menu to the left of the search box
  4. Type the title in the search box and click Search Catalogue
  5. If Memorial owns the item, the correct title will appear in an alphabetical list.

All items indexed in the Canadian Research Index are available on microfiche in the Microforms Room, Level 1 of the QEII Library.

Print/save/email

Before you Print, Save or Email your records, you may mark the records you want by clicking in the checkbox next to each record.

To Print, Save or Email, select PRINT CAPTURE from the top or bottom of the screen, and select from the options given.
