Saving files for retrieval later
Files can be saved in a temporary folder from where they can be uploaded to a MUN e-mail account for viewing or printing later. Note that the procedure below applies to the QEII Library's Webcat computers, equipped with a temporary folder and configured to use the MUN Webmail system only. The computers designated Lobby will allow you to use any e-mail account, but the process might vary a little from what is outlined below.
Once you close your session at the Webcat or Lobby computers, your saved material in the temporary folder will be deleted.
Saving the file to a temporary folder
- In the document, click on File, Save As (or whatever save feature is available, depending on the software being used). This opens up the Save screen where the temporary folder can be accessed and in which the document will be saved; the folder is called Local Disk (M:).
- In the Save in bar, double-click on desktop, My Computer, Local Disk (M:). Local Disk (M:) might already appear in the Save in bar if it has been accessed before, in which case, proceed to the next step below.
- Name your file (under File name) and click Save.
Uploading the file from the temporary folder to e-mail
Using MUN Webmail, you can now login to your MUN e-mail account. From there, you can access the M: folder to send the document as an e-mail attachment.
- Go to webmail.mun.ca to access your MUN Webmail and login to your e-mail account.
- Click Compose and fill in the To and Subject lines. Scroll to the bottom and click on Browse (next to the Attach button). This will open the Choose File to Upload screen.
-
Click on the document you saved in the M: folder, then on Open and Attach.
- Send the e-mail. The file has now been sent as an e-mail attachment and is available for subsequent retrieval.
When you log off the Webcat or Lobby computer, your saved material in the M: folder will be deleted.
