Instructions for Windows Users

SciFinder Scholar uses client software which you must install on your computer. To do so, follow these instructions:

  1. Go to ftp://condor.library.mun.ca/SciFinder/SFS2007.exe
  2. NOTE: you cannot access this software from off-campus

  3. Click "save" and download the file to a folder on your own computer.

  4. When download complete, if necessary, close the window.

  5. Open the folder you used, in step 2, to download the SFS2007.exe file.
  6. Double click the SFS2007.exe file which you have just downloaded. This will install the SciFinder Scholar client on your computer.

  7. Follow the instructions on the screen. Continue to press Next until you are asked: "Do you have a disk labeled Custom Site Files?" Click No and continue pressing Next. If you have a previously installed copy of SciFinder Scholar on your computer, allow it to be overwritten with the new files.

A window with a SciFinder Scholar shortcut icon will appear. Minimize the window..

  8. Click YES to the question "Do you want to install SciFinder tool bar now?"
  9. "Install Shield Wizard Complete" window will appear. Do NOT Test Connection. Click Finish.
  10. Right click on the link ftp://condor.library.mun.ca/Scifinder/site.prf.
  11. Click on "save target as"; browse to "C:\", double click on the folder "SFSCHLR", and click save. This will install the site.prf file. If you don't have the site.prf file installed, you will not be able to gain access to SciFinder Scholar.
  12. Once the download is complete, close the window.

  13. Maximize the window which you minimized in step #4.
  14. Click on and drag the SciFinder Scholar shortcut to your desktop. Close the window.
