User ID (or Alt ID) and PIN
User ID | Alt ID | PIN | Expiry of Privileges
When accessing certain library resources and services, you may be asked to provide
your User ID (or Alt ID) and your PIN. These identification numbers allow students,
staff and faculty of Memorial University to log into resources such as article indexes and ejournals when off campus, to place holds and document delivery requests, and to
access their library account information.
User ID
- Your User ID is your 14 digit library card barcode number.
- As the User ID is rather long and cumbersome, you may choose to use the shorter Alt ID instead.
Alt ID
-
For students, your Alt ID is your Student number.
- If your student number has fewer than nine digits, add zeros in front (e.g. 007654321 , 000654321).
- For staff or faculty members at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, contact the Circulation Desk to obtain your Alt ID.
- For other staff or faculty members, your Alt ID is the last 7 digits of your library card barcode number. (You may change this to something that is easier to remember by contacting the Circulation Desk).
PIN (Personal Identification Number)
- To obtain your PIN, visit the Circulation Desk at your branch library with your valid MUN library card, or complete the following online form.
- Keep your PIN personal and confidential - only you should know it.
- You can change your PIN using My Account.
- If you forget your PIN, contact the Circulation Desk of your branch library.
- Warning: To avoid security problems, do not use the same PIN for your library card as you use for your bank, charge or similar cards.
Expiry of Privileges
- Periodically, library privileges for Memorial faculty and students are "expired" as part of our routine for updating records and ensuring their accuracy.
- This affects borrowing privileges as well as access to restricted resources such as article indexes.
- If you have problems accessing My Account features or the Off-campus Login you should contact the Circulation Desk of your branch library
in order to update your circulation record and extend your privileges as appropriate. (Distance students living outside the St. John's exchange should contact Distance Plus)
