How to access

  1. Go the MUN Libraries homepage at http://www.library.mun.ca/
  2. If you are at home, click on the Off-campus Login icon at the top right of the home page, and follow the instructions.
  3. Select Article Indexes
  4. Under Indexes by Title, select M
  5. Select MathSciNet Guide

Quick tips

Help top right of screen
Truncation *(asterisk) e.g., algebr* retrieves algebra, algebras, algebraic, algebraically, etc.
Combining terms use Boolean operators - and, or, not - and parentheses ( ) where necessary. More info
Phrase searching enter words in the order you want them searched e.g., weak subalgebra lattice

How to search

Select Full Search from Search MathSciNet to proceed to the search screen.
  1. Enter your words or phrases in the appropriate search boxes
    e.g.,
    Author/Related - Searches words in the Author fields, i.e. Author's name plus editors, translators, etc.

    MSC Primary/Secondary - Searches the Mathematics Subject Classification codes. If you do not know the code for your subject, select MSC from the Search MathSciNet Menu on the left of the screen.

    Anywhere - Searches the entire MathSciNet record.
  2. Add any further limits such as document type or year, if desired
  3. Select Start Search

    Example:
    Author/Related campbell h*
    AND MSC Primary/Secondary 13A50 OR 55S10
    AND Anywhere invariant

Locating documents in the library

To determine if Memorial Libraries owns a journal:
  1. Open the Library Catalogue in a new window
  2. Select Browse above the search box
  3. Select Periodical Title from the drop down menu to the left of the search box
  4. Type the title of the journal in the search box and click Search Catalogue
  5. If Memorial owns the journal, the correct title will appear in an alphabetical list. Click on the title to check the full record - make sure that the volume/year of the journal you are looking for is listed

Print/save/email

Before you Print, Save or Email your records, you may collect the records you want by clicking on Add to clipboard next to each record.

To Print, Save, or Email search results:
  1. Click on View clipboard, then select Save all
  2. Use your browser's Print, Save, or Mail commands to send your records to a printer, disc or email address
