Tips for Success with SPORTDiscus
What is SPORTDiscus?
SPORTDiscus is "...the world's leading database in sport, health, fitness and sports medicine". (Sport Information Resource Centre). It indexes books, journals, magazines, conference papers, computer programs, audiovisual material, and web sites. It includes material written in 50 languages.
What does this mean for you?
SPORT Discus includes many items the University Library does NOT own.
How can you limit your searches to academic material that you are more likely to find in the University Library sytem?
Here are some suggestions:
- Limit your search to Peer Reviewed
- Limit your search to English language items
- Limit your search country Canada or United Kingdom or United States
-
Limit your search to certain "document types". The Library often does not own such SPORT Discus items as computer programs and audiovisual items, nor can the Library borrow these for you. So limit your search to document types such as:
| Book-analytic |
|
[retrieves chapters from books] |
| Journal Article |
|
[retrieves journal articles] |
| Monograph |
|
[retrieves books] |
| Serial |
