Health Sciences Library After Hours Access

After hours access to the Health Sciences Library by non-library staff is permissible only in cases of clinical urgency directly related to patient care. Questions about the policy should be directed to the Associate University Librarian (Health Sciences).

Access to the Health Sciences Library when it is closed is permitted only for on-duty health professionals working in the Health Sciences Centre who have an urgent clinical patient care problem requiring access to information materials located in the library. Access to books and journals are the only resources available after hours. Other services which are not available include: photocopying, computer lab, library computers, pick up or delivery of document delivery requests/books on hold, study space, etc.

The procedure for after hours access is for the health professional to contact HSC Campus Enforcement & Patrol personnel who will allow the person(s) to enter the public area of the library provided that the requester and anyone entering the library is properly identified. The person entering the library shall be warned by the CEP officer that they are not permitted to allow anyone else to enter the library and they must leave a note at the library circulation desk listing any materials which they remove from the library.

The CEP officer will forward a report on the next work day to the library reporting who they allowed to access the library and at what time. Under no circumstances will after hours access be provided to non-public areas of the library.

Retrieval of personal belongings left in the library is permitted provided that the CEP officer remains in the library and checks that the person only leaves with their personal belongings. No report to the library is required for retrieval of personal belongings.
