The Health Sciences Library also acts as a resource centre for all health practitioners in the Province. Electronic Resources are provided through the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Knowledge Information Network
Patients at the Health Sciences Centre and their families, as well as members of the public looking for health information, can visit the library as guests and make use of some of our services. For more information, see Library Services by User Group. All users must conform to library policies and standards of behaviour.The Health Sciences Library collection includes material on medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry and allied health. In the health and allied disciplines, there are approximately 40,000 books (paper format); 20,000 electronic texts; 8,000 electronic journals; 350 current journals (paper format); and 1800 audio-visual material. In addition, the library provides access to approximately 30,000 non-health electronic journals and 220,000 electronic texts that are accessible through general Memorial University agreements.
The K.B. Roberts Historical Collection includes important scholarly analyses of the history of medicine and the health sciences, reprints of classics in the health sciences, and "working" materials such as medical textbooks and other primary historical sources that are exemplary of past medical practice and thought.
The Founders Archive, an archival repository for the medical school, is located within the Library.

Library study space consists of individual carrels, tables, single study rooms, and group study rooms. Use of the group study rooms, and of non-assigned single study rooms, is restricted to Memorial's Health Sciences students. For more information, see the Study Room Policy.
The Health Sciences Library art space is the exterior south wall of the computer lab. We display submissions from current faculty, staff and students from the Faculty of Medicine, the Schools of Pharmacy and Nursing, and Eastern Health Health Sciences Centre staff. We showcase photography, paintings, prints, needlework, etc. For further information, contact Lindsay Glynn, Health Sciences Library.

All computers are subject to University regulations on appropriate use. There are a number of workstations located near the Information Desk which provide access to health databases, electronic journals, e-books and the library catalogue. The commons workstations include internet access as well as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Logins are required. The MEDITECH system of the Health Care Corporation is NOT available from within the Library.
A scanner/multi-media station is also available. Users can view CD-ROM material held by the library (earphones are available at the Circulation Desk). Copies of e-journal articles, images and other files can be obtained using the scanner. Options include black and white printing, colour printing and colour transparencies from this workstation.
The Computer Lab is available to members of the Faculty of Medicine, School of Nursing, or School of Pharmacy. Users require an HSIMS lab account. The lab provides access to the Web, e-mail, word processing and other basic computing applications. Printing is available at a charge of $0.05 per page (single sided), and requires a "Campus Card" for transferring funds into printing accounts.
