The literature search service is provided by librarians to assist individuals, in specified library user groups, by searching health related online databases for them.
This service is provided free of charge to assist Memorial faculty, staff, residents and research assistants, as well as Eastern Health staff (Health Sciences Centre site) with their clinical, teaching and research related information seeking needs.
The service is not normally provided for Memorial undergraduate students and graduate students, or for course-related assignments. This is due to the expectation that students will do searches themselves as part of the learning and educational process. We will be happy to provide help and instruction in how to do research and how to search for information.
Search requests from members of the public and health professionals who are NOT affiliated with Memorial or Eastern Health (Health Sciences Centre site) are subject to a charge of $25.00 per hour.
To take advantage of this service, use the Literature Search Request form. Please consult with a librarian for more information or to discuss your search requirements. The library reserves the right to limit the number of search requests per user.
A librarian will contact you to discuss the particulars of the search and the time required to complete the search. The databases searched will be based on your topic, the judgment of the librarian and the consultation between you and the librarian. The results do not include full articles. They will list references giving authors, titles, journal sources, and if available, abstracts. Results will be sent to you electronically via a RefWorks shared folder unless otherwise requested.
It is not the responsibility of the librarian to select the most appropriate articles from the list of results.
