TO BROWSE A LIST OF TABLES: [top]
Highlight the desired category, e.g. Health Status. Scroll through the list of tables.
TO FIND A TABLE: [top]
Click on the FIND A TABLE button, or click FILE on the menu bar and select Find.
To search for a table by title, notes, keywords, dimension names, codes
or labels, first click All to highlight all categories and then click Search. Enter a term(s), e.g. stress or a word root, e.g. smok retrieves smoke, smokers, smoking. Select the search options and click OK. A selected list of tables appears.
Click Clear to return to the full list of tables.
To see a description of a table, click on the table name, (e.g.
Suicides) and then click Summary. Click Cancel to
return to the table list.
TO VIEW A TABLE: [top]
Double click the table name or highlight it and click OK, e.g. Suicides
SCREEN FEATURES: [top]
The screen is divided into:
(1) Menu Bar: File, Edit, View, Dimension, Item, Data, Window, Help
(2) Tool Bar Buttons (short cuts to most of the commands)
(3) Work Space (document window and scroll bars)
(4) Status Bar (status of active document and items selected)
TABLES: [top]
The page icon for a dimension indicates that further information is available in the form of notes. Double click the icon to display the note.
Tables include up to eight variables or dimensions. These are
further subdivided into elements called items which have a unique
code and one or more labels.

TO CHANGE DIMENSIONS: [top]
Select a dimension in the ACTIVE DIMENSION box, e.g. Sex. Use the down arrow to see other options, e.g. Region etc. You can work with the data of the active (yellow highlighted) dimension, e.g.
Region:Canada. Use the PREVIOUS (or LEFT) and NEXT (or RIGHT) ARROWS to browse through the items for that dimension, e.g. Region:NFLD (now highlighted in yellow).
TO SWITCH POSITION OF DIMENSIONS: [top]
Click and drag the dimension to switch the ROW and COLUMN positions. (A dotted rectangle appears).
Switch, e.g. Region and Sex.
TO VIEW A DIMENSION WITHIN ANOTHER (NESTING): [top]
Using the Left mouse button, drag the dimension to the right of the ROW LABEL until a thick vertical line appears (or to the botton edge of the COLUMN LABEL until a thick horizontal line appears). Release the
button and the dimension will be nested, e.g. Drag Sex dimension and then Age dimension to the right of the Region dimension. The display changes from number of suicides by Region for each year to number of suicides by Region broken down by Sex and Age.
TO EDIT DATA: [top]
To show particular data, select the desired item heading(s) to highlight the data.
Use the arrows or the scroll box in the scroll bar to scroll though the table. When the scroll box is used, the location in the table is displayed.
To select non-consecutive data, hold down the CTRL key and click on each heading.
To show the selected data, click ITEM on the Menu Bar and then select Show.
To eliminate the selected data, click ITEM on the Menu Bar and then select Hide.
VIEW OPTIONS: [top]
Other options include change decimals, change labels, sort data, view percentage distributions.
TO RESTORE DATA: [top]
Click DIMENSION and then Show All to display all the hidden items in the active dimension.
Click DIMENSION and then Reset to display all the items in the active dimension and restore the sort order.
Click VIEW and then Reset to return to the original table view.
TO PRINT TABLES: [top]
Make sure that ONLY the information you want to print is highlighted or displayed. The full table, including columns that extend beyond the screen, are printed.
To print selected information, highlight the informtion to be printed.
Click the PRINT button. The print dialog box appears. If desired, select landscape orientation.
Click OK.
TO SAVE A TABLE: [top]
Make sure that the dimensions you want to save are displayed.
Click FILE on the Menu Bar and select Save As.
Enter a file name. Include the correct drive, which is a:, e.g. a:suicide. Choose the file type, e.g.

TO PRINT CHARTS [top]
Right click on the chart and select Print or click the PRINT button when the chart is displayed.
TO COPY CHARTS TO ANOTHER APPLICATION: [top]
Right click on the chart and select Copy. Open the application and click Paste.
TO CLOSE A TABLE OR CHART: [top]
Click on the close box (x) in the upper right corner of the table or chart.
TO EXIT: [top]
To exit Beyond 20/20, click Ivation's close box (x) in the upper right corner and then click the EXIT button at the bottom of the screen.
