The MUN Campus Card, issued at the University's Student Centre, is also your library card. You must update your Campus Card periodically at the Circulation Desk. The Circulation Desk is also where you get your library PIN number, which you need for off-campus access to e-journals, databases, and certain services like "My Account" in the library catalogue .
Generally, books and cd-roms are 2 week loan, periodicals older than 4 years are 3-day loan, and audio-visuals are 1 week. Items, except periodicals, can be renewed, provided that there is NO HOLD OR RECALL on it. You can renew items yourself by selecting My Account in the library catalogue.
The library provides a number of workstations for access to library resources and the Internet. For more information, see About the Library
Materials not available at Memorial may be obtained by using the Document Delivery service. Most copy requests (e.g. photocopies of articles or chapters out of books) can be filled within 4 working days; most book loans within 14 days. The library normally absorbs the cost. To order an item, login to the Document Delivery Form.
Through Intercampus Loans books, you can request books or photocopies from other MUN libraries. To order articles complete the Document Delivery Form. Books can be ordered directly through the library catalogue using the Request feature.
The Information Desk staff can help you with specific or general research questions. Contact us in person, by telephone, fax, email, chat or the Ask a Librarian form. We also provide a Computerized Literature Search Service.
Professional librarians provide instruction and training in the use of library databases and research tools. Instruction is available for individuals or groups, and can be tailored to specific subjects, needs or times. For more information, see Information Literacy Instruction.

For off-campus (remote) access to restricted resources like electronic journals or health databases, click on this button on the Health Sciences Library home page. You will need your library user id and pin (link)
Photocopiers are located across from the Circulation Desk. The main printers for the public computers, scanner, and microform reader are located in the photocopy room. Departmental copy/print cards are kept at the Circulation Desk for faculty, staff, residents and graduate students in the Faculty of Medicine. They are for work and research related use. You must have your library card with you to use the Departmental cards, and they should not be removed from the Library. The Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy issue departmental copy cards to their faculty and staff.
For personal use, money can be added to your Campus Card (Memorial ID) from the "Card Manager" unit located near the Information Desk. The unit can issue receipts. The cost for a print/photocopy is $0.05 per impression. To obtain small print jobs without using a MUN Campus Card, cash payment is possible by arrangement at the Circulation Desk and at a cost of $0.10 per impression. Colour printing is $0.20 per impression and also by arrangement at the Circulation Desk.
Course instructors, class presidents or course representatives may place books, articles, audio-visual, or other materials needed for particular courses on "Reserve" (limited loan). Forms for placing materials on Reserve are available at the Circulation Desk, or for book material, you can use the Add Book to Reserve online form. Requests (one request per form) should be submitted to Circulation at least two weeks before the material will be needed by the class.
A maximum of 4 reserve files, plus 2 reserve books, may be checked out or held at any one time. Most reserve material is available for 2-hour loan, in-library use only, with overnight loan available 2 hours before closing.
Any Library user may recommend the purchase of specific books, journal subscriptions or other media materials. Request for New Book/Multi-Media and Request for New Journal Purchase forms are available near the Information Desk.
For more detail about a specific service, see under "Services" on the HSL Home Page. For quick access to popular features, check out the "Quick Search" and "HSL Menu" tabs on the left side of our web pages.
