Suggestion for Purchase |
Your Memorial University Campus Card is your library card. Each semester, you should update your Campus Card at the Circulation Desk to obtain Library privileges and receive your PIN Number. Your Campus Card is necessary to sign out books, journals, and audiovisual materials, and to renew books. Your PIN Number is needed for remote access to various online resources and the 'My account' services in the library catalogue. You also use your Campus Card to borrow audiovisual equipment with MI Audiovisual Services
Graduate Students may borrow books for 4 months and journals overnight. Books can be renewed, unless someone else has put a HOLD on them. Renew books in person, by telephone or through My Account. Books may be recalled 2 weeks after the initial charge out date if required by another patron. Books may be recalled IMMEDIATELY if needed for Reserve.
Through Document Delivery, books and photocopies of periodical articles which are not available in Memorial University collections are obtained from other libraries worldwide. The Document Delivery service is available to all graduate students. Average delivery time is 7-14 days. To order an item through Document Delivery fill in the Document Delivery Request Form.
Through Intercampus Loans, books may be borrowed and photocopies obtained from other Memorial University libraries. This service is provided free of charge to graduate students. Average delivery time for Intercampus Loans is 3-7 working days. To obtain articles, complete the Intercampus Loan Article Form. Books can be ordered directly through the library catalogue. To use this method consult Intercampus Loan book request instructions.
The Media collection is located near the entrance of the Reference/Reading Room. Media materials include cassettes, CD-ROMs, diskettes, films, ship drawings, slides, and videotapes. All materials are listed in the Memorial University Libraries catalogue. Media materials are loaned for 1 or 2 weeks ; they can be recalled IMMEDIATELY for in-class use.
There are two photocopiers in the Dr. C.R. Barrett Library, and another one near the elevator on the main floor of the Marine Institute building. Photocopies cost $0.10 per page.
The Reserve collection consists of books and articles which are required readings for courses offered each semester. There are copies of some assignment solutions and old exams on reserve. All reserve material may be borrowed on short term loans: 2 hours, 1 day or 3 days as determined by faculty. You must present your borrower card to obtain Reserve materials. To find out what is "on Reserve" check the library catalogue under the reserve desk option - Reserve materials can be searched here by course or instructor. Reserve materials are listed in the full library catalogue.
Graduate students recommendations for books, journals and audio-visual materials to be added to the collection are most welcome. Drop your suggestions off at the Reference Desk or submit the Recommendation for Purchase form .
