Food & Drink Policy

Revised: October 6, 2010

Purpose: To ensure the protection and preservation of library material, equipment and furnishings, and to provide a comfortable and appealing environment for all library users.

Policy: The Library allows food, within reason, and drinks to be consumed in designated areas of the library. Food and drinks are allowed at the study tables and in the study carrels. Eating or drinking is not permitted in the bookstacks or around computer workstations, audiovisual or other electronic equipment areas. All food and drinks should be stored in closed containers. In consideration of others using the MRC, no aromatic food, or food which is noisy or messy to consume, is permitted. Library staff members reserve the right to determine which food and drink items are acceptable and may ask that any food be stored or removed. Library staff will respond to complaints from other patrons regarding disruptive food consumption. Responsibility for disposing of garbage and leaving an area clean, rests with the person consuming the food or drink.
