Recall Policy
General Policy | Notification of Recall | Fines | Out of town, away from the Office?
General Policy
When you borrow books from the Library, the Library reserves the right to recall them from you in the following circumstances:
- If a book is needed for Reserve, we will recall it immediately.
- A book placed on hold by another user will be recalled from you after you have had it for 2 weeks from the initial sign-out date. Please note that the 2 week period is calculated from the original sign-out date, and not the renewal date.
-
As long as a renewable book is not recalled, it may be renewed for successive periods up to a maximum of one year. A book signed out to the same user for longer than one year will be recalled to makes sure that it is still readily available and in good condition, and to facilitate access by other library users. Books recalled under this section of the policy will not be immediately available for re-charging, but must be checked by staff and reshelved.
Notification of Recall
Recall notices are sent in one of the following ways:
- by email (if we have your email address) and/or
- by mail (URGENT RECALL is stamped in red on the envelope)
Fines
We will allow a grace period for the 'snail mail' notice to reach you. Thereafter, an overdue fine of $2.00 per day will be charged for each recalled book.
Out of town, away from the office, or otherwise out of touch?
If you are out of town (research, holidays, conference), please remember that you are still responsible for returning any recalled books and for paying any overdue charges. You can give us a temporary address, or make arrangements for someone to check your mail and return any recalled books for you.
Thank you for your cooperation with this policy. It is in place to ensure that MUN students, faculty and staff have timely access to materials.
