Library Cards (864-7423)

Your MUN Campus Card is your library card and your photocopier card. If you do not have a Campus Card, the library will issue you a card.
You must have your Campus Card in order to sign out material from the library.
If you lend your Campus Card, remember that you are responsible for the material signed out on it.
You must update your card at the Library once every year (fall term).

Hours are extended during exams.
Books may be returned through the book drop when the library is closed.
Between semesters, the hours change.

Library Privileges (864-7423)

Borrowing Material

You may borrow books for 4 months.
You may borrow journals for 1 week (except for the most current issues, which do not circulate).

Renewals

Books may be renewed unless someone else wants them.
Books may be renewed through My Account in the library catalogue.
Journals may be renewed through the MUN Libraries home page Renewal Journal form.

Place a Hold While in the Library Catalogue

View the full record of the book you want.
Select Make a Requst
Select PLACE A HOLD (on books currently CHECKEDOUT at any library)
Select your Pickup library from the drop down box (where you want the book sent - i.e. grenfell, qeii, marine, health, cmc)
Fill in your USER or ALT ID

Request items located at my home library .

Faculty and graduate students who have the Queen Elizabeth II Library as their home library may request items from the QEII collection. How to Request items from the QEII Collection.

Faculty, graduate stduents and staff who have the Ferriss Hodgett Library (Grenfell Campus) as their home library may request items from the Ferriss Hodgett collection

Books May be Recalled:

After 2 weeks from your initial charge out date if required by another patron.

IMMEDIATELY if needed for Reserve.

Note: To avoid a Recall fine, return the item within 3 days of the date of the Recall notice.

Fines are charged for:

Recalled books not returned within 5 days of the date on the bottom of the notice ($2.00/day)
Overdue Reserve material ($2.00/hour)
Lost book (or other material) (cost +$5.00 nonrefundable processing fee)

Photocopying (864-7469 or 864-7423)

Photocopying may be done with a Campus Card , coin or at Copy Services.
Photocopying may also be charged to a department or to a research account.

Reserves (864-3193)

Contact the Reserve Desk to place course related material on Reserve in person, by telephone or by sending the Add Title to Reserve form. Books and articles can be placed on short term loan for 2 hours, 1 day or 3 days. Links to Internet resources can be listed in the online Reserve Desk in the library catalogue. If you have web sites you would like your students to use for a particular course, simply provide the addresses and titles of the sites to the Reserve desk.

Ordering Books (864-7421)

Faculty members have input into which books and journals are ordered for the Library.
One faculty member in each academic department serves as a library representative, and works with the collections librarian for that area. For further details on ordering, contact your library representative or collections librarian.

Your Students and the Library

If you are planning to give your students library-related assignments or research papers, you might want to contact the Library Instruction Coordinator by e-mail or by phone (864-7427). The coordinator can be a valuable source of ideas about library/information assignments and is also the person who will arrange for your students to have a library/information research class. For more information, check out Library and Information Literacy Instruction.

Whether you schedule such a class or not, please send a copy of your assignment to the coordinator so that the librarians will be prepared for your students.

Regional Studies (864-7476)

Remember the library has a special Newfoundland and Labrador Collection, the Centre for Newfoundland Studies (CNS). Think of it when you add Newfoundland and Labrador elements to your courses.

Document Delivery (864-7424)

The Document Delivery office is temporarily inaccessible to library users. Document delivery books may be picked up at the circulation desk - photocopied items can be delivered directly to your computer desktop. There is also a direct phone line to document delivery staff located at the circulation desk.
