Map Room - GIS

The Map Room has four computer stations with GIS and statistical software. Users will need a labnet account from the Information Commons in order to access these computers. Data may be downloaded from the internet or copied from the Map Room's collection.

There is a full-time staff member and student assistant available to assist with GIS projects.

All workstations have the following:

ArcMap 10 and MapInfo 10.5 software
DVD readers/USB ports
Microsoft Office 2007 suite
Google Earth
SPSS 19 Statistical Software
Minitab 16

One workstation (TERN 04) has PCI Geomatics Geo-Imaging software, Geomatica 10, for remote-sensing users.

On-line Geographic and Spatial Data

GeoScience OnLine - Geological Survey of NL - Click on "Interactive Maps" and see Map Viewer help for instructions
Geogratis - downloadable .shp files/raster images of Canadian topo maps + other datasets
GeoBase - Canadian data sets including Digital Elevation Data
2006 Census geography - some free products from Stats Canada
DIVA-GIS - Free downloads of several types of data
USGS: Geo Data - data for individual States may be obtained by searching for the appropriate government department for that State.

Printing:
Files can be sent to print in the Information Commons area of the Library. Files can also be saved on a USB and brought to the Digital Media Center for colour printing.
