Seminar on Faculty/Librarian collaboration

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

Faculty, instructors, deans, and department heads are invited to an online seminar Librarians and Faculty as Partners: Collaboration at Work.

Sponsored by Memorial Libraries and the Instructional Development Office, this Magna Online Seminar will be presented by Kari Mofford of the New England Library Instruction Group and Marilyn Steinberg Of the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

When: Thurs., 10th April, 2008, 2:30 to 3:30pm

Where: Library Conference Room, QEII Library main floor (behind Circulation desk)

Who should attend:
New and experienced instructors who are looking for ways to enhance their classroom assignments
Academic deans, assistant deans, and department heads
Faculty development personnel
Academic librarians

This online seminar will help you put your students on the right track with their research projects by pointing them to the wide variety of resources of which they are most likely not aware - and they're as close as the campus library.

Librarians not only know what resources are out there, but also the types of resources students like. They can help Instructors effectively weave information literacy into engaging everyday classroom activities, and there's no better resource with whom faculty can collaborate. Librarians can help faculty reinvigorate research assignments and help institutions meet the requirements of accreditation bodies, which are increasingly insisting that students have information literary skills before they graduate.
More information from the Magna web site.

To register, please contact:

CISTI Source ordering cancelled

<dc:subject></dc:subject>

As of April 1st, 2008, the Libraries will no longer support document ordering directly through CISTI Source.

The decision to cancel CISTI Source document ordering was made in part because of the very small use it now gets, largely due to the fact that the Memorial University Libraries now subscribe to more than 50,000 electronic journals.

As well, improvements to the Memorial University Libraries' regular Document Delivery service, including desktop delivery via email, have made ordering directly through CISTI Source unnecessary. The Library's Document Delivery service can offer the same level and speed of service as CISTI Source.

The CISTI Source database is not being cancelled. Documents can still be ordered through the Get It at Memorial button. In addition, you can still use your CISTI Source account to receive Tables of Contents and Article alerts.

For more information, please contact Bernie Conran at bconran@mun.ca or call 737-8187.

Desktop delivery has arrived!

Document Delivery Services of Memorial University Libraries are pleased to announce the introduction of desktop delivery of all photocopied materials.

Photocopied materials (journal articles, book chapters, conference papers) will be delivered to the user in the form of an e-mail containing a link to the document in PDF format. The recipient will have the option of printing or saving the document to the desktop. Please note that the link to the article can only be used once. Users will have to contact their local Document Delivery unit to have the link sent a second time. In order to ensure e-mail link delivery, the user's library account should include a MUN.CA e-mail address.

Desktop delivery will be the default delivery method for all photocopy requests. Users may request an alternative delivery method by selecting the appropriate method from the delivery method drop-down list on the web form.

The default delivery method on both Copy and Loan forms will be "E-Mail Link;" however, users placing a loan request will still be notified to pick up the loaned item when it arrives at their home library.

Users will note a new copyright compliance statement at the bottom of the document delivery web form: "I hereby certify that this item is being sought for the purpose of private study or research and that I will not create a copy for any third party." Users must tick the consent box next to the copyright statement before the request can be submitted.

Users may now login in to the document delivery forms with either their User ID (14-digit barcode number) + PIN or their ALT ID + PIN.
