Your MUN Campus Card is your library card, and your identification card and photocopier card. You must register in person with the Circulation Desk to obtain Library privileges and obtain your 4-digit library PIN number. Your Campus Card is necessary to sign out and to renew library material. Your PIN Number is needed for access to various databases and e-journals from off-campus, and to log-in to "My Account" in the library catalogue.
NOTE: Be sure to update your Campus Card at the beginning of each semester to secure Library privileges.
Students may borrow books for 2 weeks, and can renew books unless someone else has put a HOLD on them. Books must be checked out in person, but may be returned using the book drop when the Library is closed.
After 2 weeks, books may be RECALLED at any time if required by another patron. You will be notified by email and required to return the item. Books may be recalled IMMEDIATELY if needed for Reserve. Once an item has been recalled, if you do not return it, overdue fines are $2.00 per day.
There are 40 computers located in the Library on the first and second floors which provide access to our online resources (like e-journals and eBooks), the library catalogue, MS Office, Internet Explorer, email, MSN Chat and other software. To access any of the computers on campus, you must obtain an SWGC computing account from Computing and Communications. You can apply for an account using the online application form. Accounts are effective immediately.
There are also 2 scanners available, and 2 computers which have numerous image and video editing software installed, such as Adobe Photoshop.
Students can bring their laptops, netbooks, or iPads into the Library and access all online services using the campus wireless network. Need to plug-in your laptop? Look for our red and white outlet signs to indicate where you can plug-in your laptop. We also have leather laptop chairs with adjustable trays designed to accomodate laptop use. You cannot print documents using the wireless network.
For assistance, visit the Computing & Communications Help Desk located in the library.
The Library has scientific calculators, digital voice recorders, microphones, eBook readers (Kobo and Sony readers), and portable DVD players available to borrow, and we are continuing to add new equipment. For more information, please enquire at the circulation desk about what is available.

Each time you print, money is automatically deducted from your print account. For assistance, visit the Computing & Communications Help Desk in the library.
There are 2 photocopiers available on the main level of the Ferriss Hodgett Library. Photocopy costs are $0.10 cents per copy. Photocopiers take coins (the Library does not provide change) or your MUN Campus Card. You may add funds to your Campus Card using the Grenfell Card Value Center, which is located across from the Bursar's Office, on the 2nd floor of the Arts/Science building. Save money and the environment: Ask library staff how you can scan your item and email a paperless e-copy to yourself for FREE.
Copies from Microforms are available from the Circulation Desk at a cost of $0.20 cents per copy.
MUN is committed to compliance with copyright laws, and all photocopying should comply with the Copyright Act. Please read the University's Use of Public Photocopiers for more specific guidance.
The Reserve collection consists of library materials (books, journal articles) which are required readings for courses offered this semester. There are also copies of assignment solutions and old exams on Reserve. All Reserve materials may be borrowed on short term loans, for 2 hours, 1 day or 2 days, because of high demand. Overdue reserve material is subject to a $2.00 per hour fine.
To find reserves, check the library catalogue under Reserve Desk. Reserve materials can be found by course number or instructor.
