The Ferriss Hodgett Library is one of five libraries that make up the Memorial University Libraries system. Being part of a small, liberal arts and sciences campus with affiliation to a large university means local personalized service and a core collection to support the programmes of study we offer in English, History, Social Cultural Studies, Psychology, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, Sustainable Resource Management, Business, Tourism, Visual Arts and Theatre.
Using the online library catalogue, you can find materials at the Ferriss Hodgett Library and search the more than 1,000,000 titles in other Memorial libraries. With the click of a button, you can request books and articles from St. John's, and if it's not available at Memorial, we can order books and articles from other libraries worldwide.
Graphic Novels & Manga: We currently have over 300 titles and are continuing to build the collection. Graphic Novels support many of the college's programs, such as English, Visual Arts, Social/Cultural Studies, Folklore, and others. View complete list of graphic novels.
Art Exhibition Catalogues: We have a collection of 700 exhibition catalogues of Canadian art. These catalogues can be found on the upper level with the art books.
DVD collection: DVDs can be borrowed for up to a week. Shakespeare films must be viewed in the library. There are two viewing machines on the main level. There is also a portable DVD player available for loan.

The Library has an Information Commons, with computers providing access to the library's online resources (like online newspapers and journals, and eBooks), the library catalogue, MS Office, Internet Explorer, email, MSN Chat and other software. Students can bring their laptops into the Library and access all online services using the campus wireless network. For assistance with computing or printing, students can visit the Computing & Communications Help Desk conveniently located in the library.
The library has four group study rooms that can be reserved at the main desk. There are also individual study carrels on both levels and a comfy reading area on the main level.
Use the library from anywhere, anytime! You are always welcome in the Library, but for those who like to research after hours or from the comfort of their dorms and homes, remote access to the library catalogue, over 20,000 e-books, 200 article databases and 26,000 e-journals is available 24/7, making library research easier than ever. Just be sure you have your library PIN to access these resourses outside the library.
Being part of a campus that focuses on the enviroment, the library is doing its part to reduce our carbon footprint. Be sure to check your email for library notices, as that is our primary means of communication with students. We also provide students with paperless photocopying for free! Copy library reserves, articles, or chapters from books and send them directly to your email.

Need a librarian to help with your research? We have staff at our Reference Desk from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. You can also email us at library@swgc.mun.ca, phone us at 709-637-6236, or use MUN Libraries live chat service.
