3D Virtual Reality Viewers

Experience virtual reality on your smartphone with Google viewers!

The library has both Google Cardboard and Google Daydream viewers available for 2-day loan. Google viewers work with your smartphone to let you experience 360 degree and 3D virtual environments by downloading aps to your phone and placing it inside the viewer. When you turn your head or move up and down, the image turns and moves up and down with you, simulating the experience of virtual reality.

Applications for Education

One of the biggest and most important applications for virtual and augmented reality is education. Virtual reality's ability to simulate real life scenarios creates endless possibilities to enhance the way we educate students. Take your students anywhere in the world, tour musuems or ancient ruins, examine biological specimens, gaze at the universe, or visualize complex theories without ever leaving campus.

How do I use the Google viewers?

You will need your own smartphone with an internet connection.

Google Daydream

  1. Android: Download the Google VR Services app and the Daydream app from Google Play. Daydream apps will not work if you uninstall Google VR Services.
  2. iPhone: You can use your iPhone with the Daydream viewer but you won't be able to access everything that Daydream has available. While the iPhone is not a Daydream ready phone, it is a Google Cardboard capable phone. You'll be able to access all of the Cardboard apps, but Daydream-specific apps will not be available.

Google Cardboard

  1. Google Cardboard works on Android phones (Samsung, LG, etc.) and iPhones, but not Blackberry.
  2. Download the Google Carbdboard app. If you're using an Android, download the Google Cardboard app from Google Play. iPhone users can download the Google Cardboard app from the App Store.
  3. You can also search Google Play or the App Store for "Google Cardboard" or "VR" to find virtual reality apps, or search for the free, educational apps we've suggested (currently, some apps are only available in Google Play).
