Library Services Under Alert Level 5

(posted February 15, 2021)

Based on the provincial public health declaration of a level 5 COVID alert level, Memorial University will temporarily be a fully remote teaching, learning and work environment

How does the provincial public health declaration of a level 5 COVID alert level affect library services?

All of our remote services will continue, but in the interest of health and safety, employees will be working from home. We are temporarily suspending contact-less pickup and our on-campus study space is unavailable until further notice.

Our online chat, email, e-reserves, remote instruction, document delivery, copyright support, and purchasing services are still available. We have an extensive collection of online resources, such as databases, ebooks, e-journals, streaming film collections, to support teaching, learning, and research.

What if I need something in the stacks?

Don't panic! Please contact us via email: library@grenfell.mun.ca. We have many contingency plans in place to get you the material you need, including purchasing an eBook version, working with students to find alternate online sources, or mailing items directly to you at home.

Are any of the library's on-campus study spaces available during this time?

All individual, bookable study spaces are closed until further notice.

How can I return items while campus is closed?

You can renew your items online. Sign in to OneSearch and view your account information by clicking on your name and selecting items to renew. If you are unable to renew or receive a notice that you need to return items, please don’t panic. We understand that given the current context, there may be some challenges returning your materials. Contact us if you need to make alternate arrangements.

If you would like to return any items, there are several ways:

  • Book return bin located in the Grenfell Campus Arts & Science Extension main entrance
  • any branch of Newfoundland and Labrador Public Libraries that are open for curbside pickup. Our friends at the public library will ensure we get the material back.
  • any college or university library in Atlantic Canada that is a CAUL-CBUA member.

If you are outside Atlantic Canada, or not located near a CAUL-CBUA library, please contact us to arrage return shipping. Within Canada, we are using Purolator to ship materials back to us at no cost to you.

Are you still offering your document delivery service?

Document delivery is still available for articles and book chapters. If there is a book you need that isn't in our collection, please contact us to request a purchase of an eBook or print book.

How can I contact the library?

Librarians and staff will be monitoring our online chat service seven days a week. All employees are monitoring their email, so feel free to email us anytime.
