Green Screen

Overall

This app provides students with the opportunity to apply green screen effects to their iPad recorded videos. Using this app, students can create video recordings with endless backgrounds and animations. This app is great because students can work from the many options available within the app (background images), or they can add them from their own library. Along with this, students can change their background throughout the video, using as many as they want as well as adding animations. Once the program opens, there is a short, simple video tutorial to guide you through it. Green Screen also provides the students with the opportunity to do audio/video edits on their work.

This app provides opportunities for students to express their creativity. I can easily see incorporating this app into any of the sections in the NL Drama Curriculum Guide for: movement, improvisation, speech and scene work. Many students are not comfortable in a Theatre Arts environment, fearing that they will embarrass themselves in front of their peers. By using video recordings, it allows students the chance to meet the required outcomes by performing, but giving them the chance to edit their work and add creativity and imagination.

Grade Level

Grades 7-12

Strengths: It is inexpensive, having a cost of only $3.99. Good tutorial.

Weaknesses: The only issue with this app is that you do need to do it in front of a green screen. Because it is likely that a school would only have one green screen to work with, this means that only a couple students can record at a time.
